Managing a hybrid error recovery process in a memory sub-system

A method comprising:

• Receiving a request to perform a memory access operation on a plurality of memory cells of a memory device;
• Determining a request type associated with the memory access operation;
• Responsive to determining that the request type associated with the memory access operation is a first request type, performing an error recovery operation associated with the first request type;
• and
• Responsive to determining that the request type associated with the memory access operation is a second request type, performing an error recovery operation associated with the second request type.

A non-transitory computer-readable storage medium comprising instructions that, when executed by a processing device, cause the processing device to perform operations comprising:

• receiving a request to perform a memory access operation on a plurality of memory cells of a memory device;
• determining a request type associated with the memory access operation;
• responsive to determining that the request type associated with the memory access operation is a first request type, performing an error recovery operation associated with the first request type;
• responsive to performing the error recovery operation associated with the first request type, determining an error rate associated with performing a set of read operations of the error recovery operation associated with the first request type;
• and
• responsive to determining that the error rate associated with performing the set of read operations of the error recovery operation associated with the first request type satisfies an error rate threshold, performing an error recovery operation associated with a second request type.
