Abstract
A method for use in a biometric process, comprising: for a first function and a second function, applying an acoustic stimulus to a user's ear; and for the second function: receiving a response signal of a user's ear to the acoustic stimulus; and extracting, from the response signal, one or more features for use in a biometric process, wherein the first function is a function other than to induce the response signal for use in the biometric process.
Claims17
A method for use in a biometric process, comprising:
- applying an acoustic stimulus to a user's ear for a first function and for a second function, wherein the acoustic stimulus comprises a cue to the user that biometric authentication or biometric enrolment is taking place;
- and
- receiving a response signal of a user's ear to the acoustic stimulus;
- and
- extracting, from the response signal, one or more features for use in the biometric process;
- wherein the second function is to perform the biometric process using the one or more features;
- and
- wherein the first function comprises notifying the user that biometric authentication or biometric enrolment or on-ear detection is taking place.

An apparatus, comprising processing circuitry and a non-transitory machine-readable which, when executed by the processing circuitry, cause the apparatus to:
- apply an acoustic stimulus to a user's ear for a first function and for a second function, wherein the acoustic stimulus comprises a cue to the user that biometric authentication or biometric enrolment or on-ear detection is taking place;
- receive a response signal of a user's ear to the acoustic stimulus;
- and
- extract, from the response signal, one or more features for use in a biometric process;
- wherein the second function is to perform the biometric process using the one or more features;
- and
- wherein the first function comprises notifying the user that biometric authentication or biometric enrolment or on-ear detection is taking place.
A non-transitory machine-readable medium storing instructions which, when executed by one or more processors, cause an electronic apparatus to:
- applying an acoustic stimulus to a user's ear for a first function and for a second function, wherein the acoustic stimulus comprises a cue to the user that biometric authentication or biometric enrolment or on-ear detection is taking place;
- receiving a response signal of a user's ear to the acoustic stimulus;
- extracting, from the response signal, one or more features for use in a biometric process;
- wherein the second function is to perform the biometric process using the one or more features;
- and
- wherein the first function comprises notifying the user that biometric authentication or biometric enrolment or on-ear detection is taking place.
