Abstract
The present invention relates to processes for producing industrial products such as hydrocarbon products from non-polar lipids in a vegetative plant part. Preferred industrial products include alkyl esters which may be blended with petroleum based fuels.

A process for producing non-polar lipid in a vegetative plant part, the process comprising a step of expressing in the vegetative plant part one or more exogenous polynucleotides which encode at least Wrinkled 1 (WRI1) and diacylglycerol acyltransferase (DGAT), wherein the vegetative plant part has a total non-polar lipid content of between 5% and 25% (w/w dry weight).
A process for producing extracted plant lipid, the process comprising the steps of:
- a) extracting lipid from a collection of transgenic vegetative plant parts which have a total non-polar lipid content of between 5% and 25% (w/w dry weight) and which comprise one or more exogenous polynucleotides which encode at least Wrinkled 1 (WRI1) and diacylglycerol acyltransferase (DGAT);
- and
- b) recovering the extracted lipid.
