Power converter apparatus and method

A method for operating a phase-leg of a power converter, the phase-leg comprising an output terminal, a set of input terminals, and a first set of switches disposed between the set of input terminals and the output terminal, communicatively coupled to a respective gate control circuit of a set of gate control circuits, and switchably responsive to a respective drive signal from the respective gate control circuit, the method comprising:

• providing a respective drive signal from each gate control circuit to a corresponding switch of the first set of switches;
• switchably transitioning an output state of the phase-leg between one of a neutral state having a neutral output voltage, a first state having a first output voltage, and a second state having a second output voltage, by selectively operating the first set of switches based on the respective signal;
• and
• selectively changing one of a respective resistance and a respective current of a subset of the gate drive circuits based on the output state of the phase-leg.
