Detecting user interest in presented media items by observing volume change events

An electronic device for recommending media content, comprising:

• a microphone;
• one or more processors,
• memory storing one or more programs to be executed by the one or more processors;
• the one or more programs comprising instructions for:
• detecting a volume change event;
• determining whether the detected volume change event corresponds with one or more expected volume change events within media content being presented;
• and
• causing at least one content recommendation to be presented based on a first determination that the detected volume change event does not correspond with the one or more expected volume change events within media content being presented and based on a second determination of a level of user interest based on the detected volume change event.

A non-transitory computer readable storage medium storing one or more programs configured for execution by an electronic device with a microphone, the one or more programs comprising instructions for:

• detecting a volume change event;
• determining whether the detected volume change event corresponds with one or more expected volume change events within media content being presented;
• and
• causing at least one content recommendation to be presented based on a first determination that the detected volume change event does not correspond with the one or more expected volume change events within media content being presented and based on a second determination of a level of user interest based on the detected volume change event.
