Methods and apparatuses for sidelink-assisted cooperative positioning

A method for wireless communication performed at a second user equipment (UE), comprising:

• receiving a request to perform a positioning procedure from a first UE over a sidelink between the second UE and the first UE;
• transmitting the request to perform the positioning procedure to a first network entity;
• receiving, from a second network entity, an indication of a set of time resources, frequency resources, or both allocated for the positioning procedure;
• and
• transmitting the indication of the set of time resources, frequency resources, or both allocated for the positioning procedure to the first UE over the sidelink.

A first user equipment (UE), comprising:

• a memory;
• at least one transceiver;
• and
• at least one processor communicatively coupled to the memory and the at least one transceiver, the at least one processor configured to:
• cause the at least one transceiver to transmit a request to perform a positioning procedure to at least one second UE over a sidelink between the first UE and the at least one second UE;
• receive, from the at least one second UE over the sidelink, an indication of a set of time resources, frequency resources, or both allocated for the positioning procedure;
• and
• cause the at least one transceiver to transmit at least one positioning reference signal on the set of time resources, frequency resources, or both allocated for the positioning procedure.

A second user equipment (UE), comprising:

• a memory;
• at least one transceiver;
• and
• at least one processor communicatively coupled to the memory and the at least one transceiver, the at least one processor configured to:
• receive a request to perform a positioning procedure from a first UE over a sidelink between the second UE and the first UE;
• cause the at least one transceiver to transmit the request to perform the positioning procedure to a first network entity;
• receive, from a second network entity, an indication of a set of time resources, frequency resources, or both allocated for the positioning procedure;
• and
• cause the at least one transceiver to transmit the indication of the set of time resources, frequency resources, or both allocated for the positioning procedure to the first UE over the sidelink.

A first user equipment (UE), comprising:

• means for transmitting a request to perform a positioning procedure to at least one second UE over a sidelink between the first UE and the at least one second UE;
• means for receiving, from the at least one second UE over the sidelink, an indication of a set of time resources, frequency resources, or both allocated for the positioning procedure;
• and
• means for transmitting at least one positioning reference signal on the set of time resources, frequency resources, or both allocated for the positioning procedure.
