Apparatus and method for freight delivery and pick-up

A non-transitory computer readable medium bearing instructions which, when run by one or more processors, cause the one or more processors to perform a method of facilitating the delivery and pick up of goods from a warehouse, the method comprising:

• receiving information from a driver of a delivery vehicle when the driver arrives at a loading/unloading facility or at a waiting facility near the loading/unloading facility for a scheduled appointment to deliver or pick up a shipment of goods, wherein the information is received from the driver via an audio or video telephone call or via at least one informational electronic communication sent from a driver’s mobile computing device;
• identifying a loading dock at the loading/unloading facility where the driver can accomplish the scheduled appointment to deliver or pick up a shipment of goods;
• informing the driver of the identified loading dock via an audio or video telephone call or via a directing electronic communication sent to the driver’s mobile computing device;
• receiving an electronic communication indicating that a loading or unloading operation associated with the scheduled appointment has been completed;
• and
• conducting a departure operation with the driver via an audio or video telephone call or via at least one departure electronic communication.
