Beam Failure Detection and Recovery Procedures with Common Beams

A wireless device comprising:

• one or more processors;
• and
• memory storing instructions that, when executed by the one or more processors, cause the wireless device to:
• increment a beam failure detection (BFD) instance counter based on detection of a first beam failure of a first reference signal (RS);
• reset the BFD instance counter based on an indication of a transmission configuration indicator (TCI) state applicable for receptions of physical downlink channels, wherein the TCI state is associated with a second RS;
• and
• transmit a beam failure recovery request based on the BFD instance counter being greater than a threshold, wherein the BFD instance counter is incremented based on detection of a second beam failure of the second RS.

A system comprising:

• a base station;
• and
• a wireless device comprising:
• one or more processors;
• and
• memory storing instructions that, when executed by the one or more processors, cause the wireless device to:
• increment a beam failure detection (BFD) instance counter based on detection of a first beam failure of a first reference signal (RS);
• reset the BFD instance counter based on an indication of a transmission configuration indicator (TCI) state applicable for receptions of physical downlink channels, wherein the TCI state is associated with a second RS;
• and
• transmit a beam failure recovery request based on the BFD instance counter being greater than a threshold, wherein the BFD instance counter is incremented based on detection of a second beam failure of the second RS.
