Abstract
Periodontal disorders such as disorders associated with a dental implant are treated. An average power for a laser is selected via a user interface on a tablet, along with a set of permissible laser parameters provided in response to the selected average power. A gingival trough or flap is created around the implant with the laser. Infected tissue is selectively ablated or denatured via photothermolysis, and a pocket is lased around the affected implant. Marginal tissues are compressed against the implant.
Claims15
A laser-assisted oral surgery system comprising:
- a network including a tablet and a main laser computer;
- the network configured to control a laser head including a laser;
- operating ranges for laser parameters including average power, pulse width, energy, and pulse repetition rate;
- within the operating ranges, a subset of ranges to limit one or more of the operating ranges for performing a particular procedure is presented for selection via a user interface;
- the subset of ranges defines a first therapeutic window;
- when a laser parameter outlier that is outside the subset of ranges is selected, the tablet calculates changes to one or more of the other laser parameters to define and present via the user interface, in lieu of the first therapeutic window, a second therapeutic window;
- and,
- the laser operated in accordance with the defined therapeutic window to perform the particular procedure to create a gingival trough or flap;
- wherein infected tissue is ablated or denatured via selective photothermolysis.
A laser-assisted oral surgery system comprising:
- a laser head including a laser with laser parameters including pulse duration, pulse energy and pulse repetition rate;
- for a particular procedure, a tablet defining a therapeutic window that is procedure specific;
- the therapeutic window defined by ranges of permissible values for each laser parameter;
- when a user operates the laser-assisted oral surgery system according to the ranges of permissible values the therapeutic window is not changed;
- and,
- when a user operates the laser-assisted oral surgery system with at least one laser parameter that is outside a permissible value range, then at least one other laser parameter is automatically changed by the tablet and an alternate therapeutic window is created.
A laser-assisted oral surgery system comprising:
- a network including a tablet and a main laser computer;
- the network configured to control a laser head including a laser;
- for a particular procedure and for a particular optical fiber diameter the tablet for determining a first therapeutic window and a second therapeutic window;
- in the first therapeutic window, a first group of permissible laser parameters including pulse duration, pulse energy, and pulse repetition rate;
- ranges of values for each of the permissible laser parameters of the first therapeutic window;
- selection of an impermissible laser parameter value that is outside a range of values of a corresponding permissible laser parameter of the first therapeutic window creates a second therapeutic window and a second group of laser parameters including pulse duration, pulse energy, and pulse repetition rate;
- and,
- a laser energy delivery rate for the particular procedure is determined by the laser parameter values in the first therapeutic window;
- wherein the selection of an impermissible laser parameter value causes the tablet to recalculate one or more of the second therapeutic window's other laser parameter values such that the laser energy delivery rate for the second therapeutic window is determined by the laser energy delivery rate of the first therapeutic window.
