PHASE NOISE (PN) MITIGATION PILOT ALLOCATION ON A SINGLE COMPONENT CARRIER (CC) FOR PN MITIGATION ON MULTIPLE CCs

An apparatus for wireless communications by a user equipment (UE), comprising:

• at least one processor;
• and
• a memory coupled to the at least one processor, the memory including instructions executable by the at least one processor to cause the apparatus to:
• estimate impairments caused by phase noise (PN) for only a first component carrier (CC) configured for the UE, wherein the first CC is configured with pilots for PN mitigation;
• and
• mitigate the PN on each CC for all CCs configured for the UE based, at least in part, on the estimated impairments for the first CC.

An apparatus for wireless communications by a user equipment (UE), comprising:

• at least one processor;
• and
• a memory coupled to the at least one processor, the memory including instructions executable by the at least one processor to cause the apparatus to:
• receive, from a user equipment (UE), an indication of a capability of the UE to mitigate phase noise (PN) on each component carrier (CC) for all CCs configured for the UE when only one CC configured for the UE is configured with pilots for PN mitigation;
• and
• configure a first CC configured for the UE with the pilots for PN mitigation in accordance with the capability.
