Flanged bearing, assembly, and method of making and using the same

An assembly comprising:

• an inner component;
• an outer component;
• and
• a bearing disposed radially between the inner component and the outer component, wherein the bearing comprises:
• a sidewall comprising a substrate and a low friction material extending along at least one of a radially inner surface or a radially outer surface of the sidewall, the sidewall further comprising:
• a body defining a bore about a central axis;
• and
• a flange contiguous with and extending from an axial end of the body, wherein the flange comprises a folded over outermost peripheral edge, wherein the substrate has a reduced thickness at the outermost peripheral edge, the flange being configured such that the substrate is not exposed along the outermost peripheral edge.

A method comprising:

• providing a blank comprising a substrate and a low friction material;
• forming the blank into a sidewall comprising a body defining a bore about a central axis, wherein the low friction material extends along at least one of a radially inner surface or a radially outer surface of the sidewall;
• chamfering the substrate at an axial edge of the sidewall;
• folding over the chamfered axial edge of the sidewall;
• and
• stamping the axial edge of the sidewall to form a flange contiguous with and extending from an sidewall, wherein the flange comprises a folded over outermost peripheral edge, wherein the substrate has a reduced thickness at the outermost peripheral edge, the flange being configured such that the substrate is not exposed along the outermost peripheral edge.
