Apparatus and method of csi acquisition on sidelink

An apparatus comprising:

• a receiver that receives a reference signal from a device on a sidelink (SL) transmission;
• a transmitter that transmits a channel quality report to the device;
• and
• a processor that controls the transmitter and the receiver, and measures a channel quality based on the reference signal received;
• wherein the processor is configurable to support:
• a reporting activation scheme where an in which a SL channel status information (CSI) reporting activation indicator is configured;
• a measurement triggering scheme in which the processor measures the channel quality upon satisfying a triggering condition;
• or a combination thereof.

A method comprising:

• transmitting, by a transmitter, a reference signal to a device on a sidelink (SL) transmission;
• receiving, by a receiver, a channel quality report from the device;
• and
• decoding, by a processor, the channel quality report to obtain a channel quality;
• wherein the processor controls the transmitter and the receiver, and is configurable to support:
• a reporting activation scheme in which a SL channel status information (CSI) reporting activation indicator is configured;
• a measurement triggering scheme in which the transmitter initiates transmission of the reference signal upon satisfying a triggering condition;
• or a combination thereof.
