Adaptive Phase Add/Shed for a Power Converter

A method comprising:

• generating a first signal indicative of an amount of output current provided by a plurality of voltage regulator circuits coupled to a regulated power supply node;
• generating a second signal based on one or more environmental parameters associated with the plurality of voltage regulator circuits;
• comparing, using a comparator circuit, a value of the first signal to a value of the second signal;
• and
• adjusting a number of voltage regulator circuits of the plurality of voltage regulator circuits that are active based on results of the comparing.

A system comprising:

• a load circuit configured to operate using a regulated supply voltage;
• a power converter configured to generate the regulated supply voltage, wherein the power converter includes a plurality of switching voltage regulators, wherein ones of the plurality of switching voltage regulators are configured to, when active, generate the regulated supply voltage;
• and
• a control circuit coupled to the plurality of switching voltage regulators, wherein the control circuit is configured to set a number of the plurality of switching voltage regulators that are active at a given time based on an output current of the power converter and one or more environmental parameters associated with the plurality of voltage regulator circuits.
