Systems and methods for sorting residual items

A system for sorting and delivering items comprising:

• a processor configured to receive a manifest of information for sorting a plurality of items into the items' associated set of bins and classify the plurality of items to be sorted into at least two sets of bins;
• a first sorter configured to receive a plurality of items and sort the items into at least two sets of bins based on the item's classification from the manifest of information;
• a printer configured to create a smart card;
• a smart card containing item information for a delivery carrier about the plurality of times sorted;
• a second sorter configured to sort the smart card into the first set of the plurality of bins based on
• a smart card configured to be sorted in each of the plurality of bins and communicate to a delivery carrier different item information within the plurality of bins based on the item information for items in the second set of bins.
