Apparatus and method for localization of terminal in wireless communication system

A method performed by a location management function (LMF) device in a wireless communication system, the method comprising:

• transmitting, to a base station, positioning reference signal (PRS) configuration information related to a reference cell and one or more neighboring cells of a terminal;
• transmitting, to the base station, a message for requesting PRS measurement by the terminal;
• receiving measurement information including a reference signal timing difference (RSTD) between transmission time of a PRS received via a first beam of the reference cell and transmission time of a PRS received via a second beam of the each of one or more neighboring cells, wherein the RSTD is determined based on the PRS configuration information;
• and
• identifying a location of the terminal, based on the RSTD.

A terminal in a wireless communication system, the terminal comprising:

• at least one transceiver;
• and
• at least one processor connected with the transceiver,
• wherein the at least one processor is configured to:
• receive, from a base station, positioning reference signal (PRS) configuration information related to a reference cell and one or more neighboring cells of the terminal,
• receive, from the base station, a message for requesting PRS measurement,
• identify, based on the PRS configuration information, a reference signal timing difference (RSTD) between transmission time of a PRS received via a first beam of the reference cell and transmission time of a PRS received via a second beam of each of the one or more neighboring cells, and
• transmit, to the base station, measurement information including the RSTD to a base station.
