Virtual partition management

A memory device comprising:

• a controller including processing circuitry having one or more processors, the controller configured to cause the memory device to perform operations, the operation comprising:
• controlling virtual partition management (VPM) in the memory device, the VPM having a VPM area and a VPM switch, with the VPM area including extension components, each extension component having an individual interface and an individual defined device behavior to execute operations on components of the memory device;
• differentiating, via the VPM switch, commands for the extension components from commands for a data storage area of the memory device;
• and
• executing one or more of the extension components.

A system comprising:

• a memory device including:
• input/output circuitry to couple to a host platform exterior to the memory device;
• a controller including processing circuitry having one or more processors, the controller configured to cause the memory device to perform operations, the operation comprising:
• controlling virtual partition management (VPM) in the memory device, the VPM having a VPM area and a VPM switch, with the VPM area including extension components, each extension component having an individual interface and an individual defined device behavior to execute operations on components of the memory device;
• and
• differentiating, via the VPM switch, commands for the extension components from commands for a data storage area of the memory device.
