Abstract
A sensing system is designed to include a plurality of linear sensors, where these linear sensors are spaced apart, positioned or disposed in parallel on a substrate. These sensors are provided to detect respective distances towards a target from different planes so as to generate a plurality of 2D maps. A thin or coarse 3D map is then generated from these 2D maps to facilitate movements of a mobile robot employing the sensing system.
Claims20
A sensing system for coarse 3D mapping, the sensing system comprising:
- a substrate;
- a plurality of linear sensors spaced apart in parallel and deposed on the substrate, each of the linear sensors including a plurality of sense elements;
- a light source projecting a light bar, wherein the light bar hits a target to produce a plurality of reflected beams, where the reflected beams impinges the linear sensors to generate a plurality of 2D maps;
- and
- a computation unit to generate a coarse 3D map from these 2D maps.
2 more elements
A method for a sensing system to generate a coarse 3D map, the method comprising:
- projecting a light bar forward from a light source, wherein the light bar hits a target to produce a plurality of reflected beams, where the reflected beams impinges upon a plurality of linear sensors;
- generating a plurality of 2D maps respectively produced via the linear sensors spaced apart in parallel and deposed on the substrate, each of the linear sensors including a plurality of sense elements;
- and
- generating a coarse 3D map of the target from these 2D maps.
