Abstract
A method for sensing tissue data and managing processing power is disclosed.
Claims19
A method, comprising:
- seating a staple cartridge in a jaw of a surgical stapling instrument;
- clamping patient tissue against the staple cartridge;
- sensing a property of the patient tissue with a sensor array of the staple cartridge;
- generating sensed tissue data with the sensor array;
- sensing a temperature with a temperature sensor of the staple cartridge;
- generating sensed temperature data with the temperature sensor;
- processing the sensed tissue data and the sensed temperature data with a control system processor to generate processed data;
- and
- transmitting said processed data to the surgical stapling instrument.
6 more elements
A method, comprising:
- seating a staple cartridge in a jaw of a surgical stapling instrument, wherein the staple cartridge comprises a control system;
- clamping patient tissue against the staple cartridge during a clamping stroke;
- providing electrical power from the surgical stapling instrument to the control system of the staple cartridge across an antenna couple at a first wattage during the clamping stroke;
- firing staples from the staple cartridge during a staple firing stroke;
- and
- providing electrical power from the surgical stapling instrument to the control system of the staple cartridge across the antenna couple at a second wattage during the staple firing stroke, wherein the first wattage is different than the second wattage.

A method, comprising:
- seating a staple cartridge in a jaw of a surgical stapling instrument, wherein the staple cartridge comprises a control system;
- clamping patient tissue against the staple cartridge during a clamping stroke;
- firing staples from the staple cartridge during a staple firing stroke;
- providing electrical power from the surgical stapling instrument to the control system of the staple cartridge across an antenna couple at a first wattage after the clamping stroke but before the staple firing stroke;
- and
- providing electrical power from the surgical stapling instrument to the control system of the staple cartridge across the antenna couple at a second wattage during the staple firing stroke, wherein the first wattage is different than the second wattage.
3 more elements
A method, comprising:
- seating a staple cartridge in a jaw of a surgical stapling instrument, wherein the staple cartridge comprises a control system;
- clamping patient tissue against the staple cartridge during a clamping stroke;
- firing staples from the staple cartridge during a staple firing stroke;
- sensing temperature from a temperature sensor of the staple cartridge;
- processing data from a tissue sensor of the staple cartridge, wherein said processing step occurs at a first processing rate when the temperature is below a temperature threshold, wherein said processing step occurs at a second processing rate when the temperature is above the temperature threshold and the staple firing stroke has not yet been initiated, and wherein said processing step occurs at the first processing rate when the temperature is above the temperature threshold and the staple firing stroke has been at least partially performed.
