Abstract
A surgical system comprising a stapling instrument and a staple cartridge including a plurality of independent circuits powered by the surgical instrument is disclosed.
Claims23
A stapling assembly for treating patient tissue, comprising:
- a stapling instrument, comprising:
- a housing;
- a shaft extending from said housing;
- an end effector comprising a first jaw and a second jaw;
- a power source;
- and
- a power circuit in communication with said power source, wherein said power circuit comprises a power coil in said end effector;
- and
- a staple cartridge seatable in said first jaw, comprising:
- a cartridge body;
- staples removably stored in said cartridge body;
- a first electronic circuit, wherein said first electronic circuit is powered by said power coil when said staple cartridge is seated in said first jaw, and wherein said first electronic circuit comprises a near field communication tag including data regarding said staple cartridge;
- and
- a second electronic circuit, wherein said second electronic circuit is powered by said power coil when said staple cartridge is seated in said jaw, and wherein said second electronic circuit is configured to monitor a parameter of patient tissue positioned intermediate said staple cartridge and said second jaw.

- a second electronic circuit, wherein said second electronic circuit is powered by said power coil system when said staple cartridge is seated in said jaw.
