Transmission of buffer status reports on multiple component carriers

A user equipment (UE);

• comprising:
• a memory having instructions;
• a transceiver;
• and
• one or more processors communicatively coupled with the memory and the transceiver, the one or more processors are configured to execute the instructions to:
• receive, via the transceiver, at the UE, a radio resource control (RRC) message from a first base station, wherein the RRC message indicates that uplink component carriers (CCs) of the UE are to be assigned to a plurality of uplink CC groups, wherein the plurality of uplink CC groups includes a first uplink CC group and a second uplink CC group;
• assign the uplink CCs to the plurality of uplink CC groups;
• generate, at the UE, a plurality of multi-bit SRs including a multi-bit SR for each group of the plurality of uplink CC groups, wherein the generating includes generating a first multi-bit SR for the first uplink CC group and a second multi-bit SR for the second uplink CC group, wherein a first number of bits of the first multi-bit SR is different from a second number of bits of the second multi-bit SR;
• map each logical channel of a plurality of logical channels at the UE to at least one uplink CC of the plurality of uplink CCs;
• and
• transmit, via the transceiver, from the UE, at least one of the plurality of multi-bit SRs generated for a group of the plurality of uplink CC groups to a second base station.

A user equipment (UE);

• comprising:
• means for receiving, at the UE, a radio resource control (RRC) message from a first base station, wherein the RRC message indicates that uplink component carriers (CCs) of the UE are to be assigned to a plurality of uplink CC groups, wherein the plurality of uplink CC groups includes a first uplink CC group and a second uplink CC group;
• means for assigning the uplink CCs to the plurality of uplink CC groups;
• means for generating, at the UE, a plurality of multi-bit SRs including a multi-bit SR for each group of the plurality of uplink CC groups, wherein the generating includes generating a first multi-bit SR for the first uplink CC group and a second multi-bit SR for the second uplink CC group, wherein a first number of bits of the first multi-bit SR is different from a second number of bits of the second multi-bit SR;
• means for mapping each logical channel of a plurality of logical channels at the UE to at least one uplink CC of the plurality of uplink CCs;
• and
• means for transmitting, from the UE, at least one of the plurality of multi-bit SRs generated for a group of the plurality of uplink CC groups to a second base station.

A non-transitory computer readable medium including instructions that, when executed by one or more processors of a user equipment (UE), cause the one or more processors to:

• receive, at the UE, a radio resource control (RRC) message from a first base station, wherein the RRC message indicates that uplink component carriers (CCs) of the UE are to be assigned to a plurality of uplink CC groups, wherein the plurality of uplink CC groups includes a first uplink CC group and a second uplink CC group;
• assign the uplink CCs to the plurality of uplink CC groups;
• generate, at the UE, a plurality of multi-bit SRs including a multi-bit SR for each group of the plurality of uplink CC groups, wherein the generating includes generating a first multi-bit SR for the first uplink CC group and a second multi-bit SR for the second uplink CC group, wherein a first number of bits of the first multi-bit SR is different from a second number of bits of the second multi-bit SR;
• map each logical channel of a plurality of logical channels at the UE to at least one uplink CC of the plurality of uplink CCs;
• and
• transmit, from the UE, at least one of the plurality of multi-bit SRs generated for a group of the plurality of uplink CC groups to a second base station.
