Providing enhanced functionality in an interactive electronic technical manual

An apparatus for providing a virtual network within an interactive electronic technical manual system (IETM) configured to provide electronic and credentialed access via an IETM viewer to technical documentation for an item, the apparatus comprising at least one processor and at least one memory including a computer program code, the at least one memory and the computer program code configured to, with the at least one processor, cause the apparatus to:

• receive data from a graphical code, wherein the data is received as a result of a user signed into the IETM scanning the graphical code using a user computing entity being used by a user to access the IETM;
• and
• responsive to receiving the data from scanning the graphical code:
• identify one or more virtual networks supported within the IETM that are available for the user to join based on the data, wherein each of the one or more virtual networks is associated with a specific object of the item;
• provide an identifier for each of the one or more virtual networks for display via the IETM viewer executing on the user computing entity;
• receive input of a selection of an identifier for a particular virtual network of the one or more virtual networks, wherein the selection of the identifier for the particular virtual network is performed by the user via the IETM viewer;
• and
• responsive to receiving the input of the selection of the identifier for the particular virtual network, join the user computing entity being used by the user to access the IETM to the particular virtual network so that content found in the technical documentation for the item that is specific to the specific object associated with the particular virtual network is available to the user via the IETM.

A non-transitory computer storage medium comprising instructions for providing a virtual network within an interactive electronic technical manual system (IETM) configured to provide electronic and credentialed access via an IETM viewer to technical documentation for an item, the instructions being configured to cause one or more processors to at least perform operations configured to:

• receive data from a graphical code, wherein the data is received as a result of a user signed into the IETM scanning the graphical code using a user computing entity being used by a user to access the IETM;
• and
• responsive to receiving the data from scanning the graphical code:
• identify one or more virtual networks supported within the IETM that are available for the user to join based on the data, wherein each of the one or more virtual networks is associated with a specific object of the item;
• provide an identifier for each of the one or more virtual networks for display via the IETM viewer executing on the user computing entity;
• receive input of a selection of an identifier for a particular virtual network of the one or more virtual networks, wherein the selection of the identifier for the particular virtual network is performed by the user via the IETM viewer;
• and
• responsive to receiving the input of the selection of the identifier for the particular virtual network, join the user computing entity being used by the user to access the IETM to the particular virtual network so that content found in the technical documentation for the item that is specific to the specific object associated with the particular virtual network is available to the user via the IETM.
