Abstract
The disclosure relates to methods and compositions for identifying and selecting maize plants with enhanced resistance to northern leaf blight. Maize plants generated by the methods described herein are also a feature.
Claims23
A recombinant DNA construct comprising an isolated polynucleotide operably linked to at least one regulatory sequence, wherein said isolated polynucleotide comprises at least one nucleotide sequence encoding a polypeptide capable of conferring or enhancing resistance to northern leaf blight, wherein the polypeptide has an amino acid sequence of at least 90% sequence identity to SEQ ID NO:
- 100, and wherein the polypeptide capable of conferring or enhancing resistance to northern leaf blight has a different site of action or mode of action compared to SEQ ID NO:
- 97.
A modified plant comprising a heterologous polynucleotide encoding two alternatively spliced polypeptides, wherein the two alternatively spliced polypeptides have a different site of action or mode of action.
A method of increasing durability to a plant pathogen comprising modifying a plant to encode a heterologous polynucleotide encoding two alternatively spliced polypeptides, wherein the two alternatively spliced polypeptides have a different site of action or mode of action to a plant pathogen.
A recombinant DNA construct comprising a polynucleotide operably linked to at least one regulatory sequence wherein said polynucleotide comprises a nucleic acid sequence encoding an amino acid sequence of at least 90% sequence identity, when compared to SEQ ID NO:
- 104, 105, or 106.
A method to identify disease resistance polypeptides comprising modifying a cell to express a plant pathogen effector polypeptide having at least 90% sequence identity, when compared to SEQ ID NO:
- 104, 105, or 106;
- modifying the cell to express a potential disease resistance polypeptide;
- and assaying for interaction of the plant pathogen effector and the potential disease resistance gene.
