Abstract
A switchable grating for phase contrast imaging comprising a reservoir with a medium and x-ray absorbing particles acoustically connected to a first ultrasound generator and a second ultrasound generator arranged along a side of the reservoir orthogonal to the first side. The ultrasound generators are each, individually or together, configured to generate a soundwave with a frequency and phase such that a standing wave is formed within the medium causing the x-ray absorbing particles to organize along pressure nodes of the standing waves.
Claims14
A switchable grating for a differential phase contrast imaging and dark-field imaging interferometer, comprising:
- a reservoir containing a substantially x-ray transparent medium comprising particles that substantially attenuate x-ray radiation;
- a first ultrasound generator arranged along a first side of the reservoir configured to generate a first soundwave with a frequency and phase such that a first standing wave is formed within the medium causing the x-ray absorbing particles to organize along pressure nodes of the first standing wave;
- a second ultrasound generator arranged along a second side of the reservoir orthogonal to the first side configured to generate a second soundwave with a frequency and phase such that a second standing wave is formed within the medium causing the x-ray absorbing particles to organize along pressure nodes of the second standing wave,
- wherein the first ultrasound generator and second ultrasound generator are configured to operate separately, alternatingly or simultaneously.
A switchable grating for a differential phase contrast imaging and dark-field imaging interferometer for an x-ray imaging device having an x-ray generator arranged to emit a beam having a field-of-view through at least the switchable grating, the switchable grating comprising:
- a reservoir containing a substantially x-ray transparent medium comprising particles that substantially attenuate x-ray radiation;
- a first ultrasound generator arranged along a first side of the reservoir configured to generate a first soundwave;
- and
- means for flushing the reservoir to remove the particles outside the field-of-view of the x-ray beam.

A method for differential phase contrast imaging and dark-field imaging of an object, comprising:
- placing the object in an examination area of a system for differential phase contrast imaging and dark-field imaging;
- generating a first soundwave in a first direction with a frequency and phase such that a first standing wave is formed within the medium causing particles to organize along pressure nodes of the first standing wave, thereby forming an analyzer grating;
- and
- generating a second soundwave in a second direction, orthogonal to the first direction, with a frequency and phase such that a second standing wave is formed within the medium causing the particles to organize along pressure nodes of the first standing wave, thereby forming the analyzer grating.
