Media Management Based on Data Access Metrics

A method comprising:

• dividing, by a processing device, a translation table into a plurality of regions, the translation table mapping a plurality of logical block addresses to a plurality of physical block addresses of a memory device;
• determining that a metric associated with a particular region of the plurality of regions satisfies a data migration criterion;
• and
• migrating data stored on a first block associated with the particular region to a second block.

A non-transitory computer-readable storage medium comprising instructions that, when executed by a processing device, cause the processing device to:

• track a number of data access operations associated with each of a plurality of portions of a translation map, the translation map mapping a plurality of logical block addresses to a plurality of physical block addresses of the memory device;
• determine that a criterion to perform a garbage collection operation is satisfied, the garbage collection operation to be performed on a block of the memory component;
• identify the block for performing the garbage collection operation based on the number of data access operations associated with each of the plurality of portions of the translation map;
• and
• perform the garbage collection operation on the identified block.
