Abstract
A process is provided for producing ammonia comprising feeding N2 to an electrolytic cell that comprises a cathode with a transition metal sulfide catalytic surface. Also provided a system for generating ammonia with the process, comprising a transition metal sulfide catalyst.
Claims21
A process for producing ammonia comprising:
- feeding N2 to an electrolytic cell that comprises a cathode, an anode, an electrolyte and at least one source of protons;
- allowing the N2 to come into contact with an electrode surface of the cathode in the electrolytic cell, wherein said electrode surface comprises a catalyst surface comprising at least one transition metal sulfide;
- and
- running a current through said electrolytic cell, whereby nitrogen reacts with protons to form ammonia.
1 more element
A system for generating ammonia, the system comprising at least one electrochemical cell, which comprises at least one cathode electrode having a catalytic surface, wherein the catalytic surface comprises at least one catalyst comprising one or more transition metal sulfide.
