Abstract
An exercise system includes a load bearing element having a control element. It further includes a resistance mechanism responsive to a signal from the control element. The signal from the control element is selectively rejected based on state information relating to a state of the load bearing element.

An exercise system, comprising:
- a load bearing element having a control element;
- and
- a resistance mechanism responsive to a signal from the control element;
- wherein the signal from the control element is selectively rejected based on state information relating to a state of the load bearing element.
