Method and device for controlling transmission and reception of content in communication system

A method for providing media content by a server, the method comprising:

• transmitting, to a client, a media presentation description (MPD) including content type information for three-dimensional (3D) media content and configuration type information for the 3D media content;
• receiving, from the client, a request for a segment of the 3D media content;
• and
• transmitting, to the client, the 3D media content,
• wherein the content type information indicates an identifier for the 3D media content, and
• wherein the configuration type information indicates whether quality is adjustable for each of content components of the 3D media content.

A client terminal configured to receive media content, the client terminal comprising:

• a transceiver;
• and
• at least one processor coupled with the transceiver and configured to control to:
• receive, from a server, a media presentation description (MPD) including content type information for three-dimensional (3D) media content and configuration type information for the 3D media content,
• access a segment of the 3D media content based on information included in the MPD, and
• receive the 3D media content based on the segment,
• wherein the content type information indicates an identifier for the 3D media content, and
• wherein the configuration type information indicates whether quality is adjustable for each of content components of the 3D media content.

A server configured to provide media content, the server comprising:

• a transceiver;
• and
• at least one processor coupled with the transceiver and configured to control to:
• transmit, to a client, a media presentation description (MPD) including content type information for three-dimensional (3D) media content and configuration type information for the 3D media content,
• receive, from the client, a request for a segment of the 3D media content, and
• transmit, to the client, the 3D media content,
• wherein the content type information indicates an identifier for the 3D media content, and
• wherein the configuration type information indicates whether quality is adjustable for each of content components of the 3D media content.
