Using coded identifiers for adaptive gaming

A method of operating a gaming system, the method comprising:

• detecting, by a wagering game machine, a first coded identifier from a mobile device by scanning the first coded identifier presented on a display device of the mobile device via one or more scanning elements embedded in a display device of the wagering game machine;
• in response to the wagering game machine detecting the first coded identifier, conducting, by the wager game machine, a wagering game session of the wagering game based at least partially on the first coded identifier;
• and
• present, via the display device of the wagering game machine, a second coded identifier associated with the wagering game session for detection by the mobile device via an image capture device of the mobile device.

A wagering game machine comprising:

• at least one display device,
• one or more scanning elements embedded in a display device of the at least one display device;
• one or more electronic processors;
• and
• a memory storage device configured to store instructions, which when executed by at least one of the one or more electronic processors, cause the wagering game machine to:
• detect a first coded identifier from a mobile device by scanning the first coded identifier presented on a display device of the mobile device via the one or more scanning elements;
• in response to the wagering game machine detecting the first coded identifier, conduct a wagering game session of the wagering game based at least partially on the first coded identifier;
• and
• present, via the at least one display device, a second coded identifier associated with the wagering game session for detection by the mobile device via an image capture device of the mobile device.
