Distributed location determination in wireless networks

A device for determining a location of a first computing device based upon a proximity of second and third computing devices, the device comprising:

• a processor;
• a memory, storing instructions, which when executed, cause the device to perform operations comprising:
• determining that the second and third computing device are within wireless communication range of each other based upon a receipt of a wireless message transmitted between the second and third computing devices, wherein the second computing device has a known location and the third computing device has an unknown location;
• determining that a wireless communication characteristic of the wireless message transmitted between the second and third devices meets a measurement target;
• responsive to determining that the wireless communication characteristic of the wireless message transmitted between the second and third devices meets the measurement target, assigning the known location of the second computing device as a location of the third computing device;
• determining that the first computing device is within communication range of the third computing device based upon communications between the first computing device and the third computing device;
• and
• responsive to determining that the first computing device is within the communication range of the third computing device, causing a location-based service to be enabled for the first computing device corresponding to the assigned location of the third computing device.

A device for determining a location of a first computing device based upon a proximity of second and third computing devices, the device comprising:

• means for determining that the second and third computing device are within wireless communication range of each other based upon a receipt of a wireless message transmitted between the second and third computing devices, wherein the second computing device has a known location and the third computing device has an unknown location;
• means for determining that a wireless communication characteristic of the wireless message transmitted between the second and third devices meets a measurement target;
• means for, responsive to determining that the wireless communication characteristic of the wireless message transmitted between the second and third devices meets the measurement target, assigning the known location of the second computing device as a location of the third computing device;
• means for determining that the first computing device is within communication range of the third computing device based upon communications between the first computing device and the third computing device;
• and
• means for, responsive to determining that the first computing device is within the communication range of the third computing device, causing a location-based service to be enabled for the first computing device corresponding to the assigned location of the third computing device.
