Abstract
Described herein is the use of a visible near infrared (VNIR) hyperspectral imaging system as a non-invasive diagnostic tool for early detection of Alzheimer's disease (AD). Also described herein is the use of a VNIR hyperspectral imaging system in high throughput screening of potential therapeutics against AD.

A method for detecting whether a subject has a transmissible spongiform encephalopathy (TSE), comprising using a visible near infrared (VNIR) hyperspectral imaging system to obtain a hyperspectral image (HSI) of a sample from the subject and determining whether the HSI is indicative of the formation of amyloid aggregates, wherein the presence of said amyloid aggregates in the sample indicates the subject has a transmissible spongiform encephalopathy, wherein the wavelengths used to obtain the HSI spectrum are in the VNIR range.
