Reducing dropped frames in image capturing devices

An apparatus for reducing dropped frames in an image capturing device, the method:

• a processor,
• memory coupled with the processor;
• and
• instructions stored in the memory and executable by the processor to cause the apparatus to:
• receive, from an optical sensor of the image capturing device, a batch of frames;
• determine, by a hardware layer or a software layer of the image capturing device, that an error condition exists in relation to the batch of frames;
• determine, by the hardware layer, a numerical quantity of frames of the batch of frames in a frame buffer based at least in part on determining the error condition exists;
• and
• send, by the hardware layer, the determined quantity of frames to the software layer of the image capturing device for processing by the software layer.

A non-transitory computer-readable medium storing code for reducing dropped frames in an image capturing device, the method comprising, the code comprising instructions executable by a processor to:

• receive, from an optical sensor of the image capturing device, a batch of frames;
• determine, by a hardware layer or a software layer of the image capturing device, that an error condition exists in relation to the batch of frames;
• determine, by the hardware layer, a numerical quantity of frames of the batch of frames in a frame buffer based at least in part on determining the error condition exists;
• and
• send, by the hardware layer, the determined quantity of frames to the software layer of the image capturing device for processing by the software layer.
