Systems and methods for light generation and use thereof

An apparatus for generating and delivering light, the apparatus comprising:

• an interface to receive an input that is based on a user preference;
• light source to generate light that comprises one or more spectra of natural sunlight and a spectral power distribution that is not present in natural sunlight;
• and
• a controller that, in response to receiving input data from one or more sensors, performs steps comprising:
• determining a set of parameters associated with at least one of a wavelength, a flux, or an exposure time of light;
• providing the set of parameters to the light source to generate the light;
• and
• controlling the light source to deliver the light to at least two of:
• a first zone comprising a relatively large portion of a person's skin, in an environment in which the majority of the person's skin is exposed, to alter a condition related to light-induced reaction involving one or more layers of the person's skin;
• a second zone of illuminance comprising the person's eyes to alter a biological process in the person's body;
• or
• a third zone of illuminance comprising a surface in the environment to at least partially disinfect the surface to reduce growth of at least one of a bacterium, a virus, or a fungus, the first, second, and third zones being different from each other.

A system for generating and delivering light, the system comprising:

• an interface to receive an input that is based on a user preference;
• light source to generate light that comprises one or more spectra of natural sunlight and a spectral power distribution that is not present in natural sunlight;
• one or more sensors that generate sensor data;
• a controller that, in response to receiving the sensor data from the one or more sensors, performs steps comprising:
• determining a set of parameters associated with at least one of a wavelength, a flux, or an exposure time of light;
• providing the set of parameters to the light source to generate the light;
• and
• controlling the light source to deliver the light to at least two of:
• a first zone of illuminance comprising a relatively large portion of a person's skin, in an environment in which the majority of the person's skin is exposed, to alter a condition related to light-induced reaction involving one or more layers of the person's skin;
• a second zone of illuminance comprising the person's eyes to alter a biological process in the person's body;
• or
• a third zone of illuminance comprising a surface in the environment to at least partially disinfect the surface to reduce growth of at least one of a bacterium, a virus, or a fungus, the first, second, and third zones being different from each other;
• and
• one or more optics that generate one or more zones of illuminance, the one or more zones of illuminance being independently controlled to cause different effects.
