Benzopyran derivatives and uses thereof

A method comprising administering an effective amount of a compound to a patient to treat one or more of psoriasis, hemophagocytic lymphohistiocytosis, Alzheimer's disease, excessive inflammation due to cytokine release, respiratory diseases, or neuronal inflammation, in which the compound has the structure of formula I:

• including pharmaceutically acceptable salts, pharmaceutically active metabolites, pharmaceutically acceptable solvates, pharmaceutically acceptable prodrugs, hydrates, stereoisomers thereof, and wherein:
• each of R1, R2, R3, R4, and R5 are, independently from each other, H, OH, NO2, COOCH3, COOH, halogen, (C1-C4) alkyl, (C1-C4) alkenyl, (C1-C4) alkoxy, (C1-C4) OCOCH3, O(C1-C4) alkyl, O(C1-C4) alkenyl, O(C2-C4) alkoxy, O(C1-C4) CN, alkyl-CONH, O-alkyl-CONH, or an organic group;
• wherein, Y is:
• each of R6, R7, R9, and R10 are, independently from each other, H, OH, NO2, COOCH3, COOH, halogen, (C1-C4) alkyl, (C1-C4) alkenyl, (C1-C4) alkoxy, (C1-C4) alkyl-COO—, OCOCH3, O(C1-C4) alkyl, O(C1-C4) alkenyl, O(C2-C4) alkoxy, O(C1-C4) CN, or an organic group;
• and
• R8 is H, OH, NO2, COOCH3, COOH, halogen, (C1-C4) alkyl, (C1-C4) alkenyl, (C1-C4) alkoxy, (C1-C4) alkyl-COO—, OCOCH3, O(C1-C4) alkyl, O(C1-C4) alkenyl, O(C2-C4) alkoxy, O(C1-C4) alkyl-COO—, CN, an organic group, or CONR11R12, wherein R11 is H or (C1-C4) alkyl and R12 is H or (C1-C4) alkyl.
