A method for controlling Coleopteran insect infestation, the method comprising delivering to a plant, ground, a Coleopteran insect, or a diet of a Coleopteran insect with a polynucleotide or a composition comprising a polynucleotide that specifically inhibits expression of a Coleopteran proteasome beta 5 (PSMB5) gene.
