Abstract
An encoder includes circuitry configured to receive an input video, select a current frame identify a first sub-picture of the current frame to be encoded using a lossless encoding protocol, and encode the current frame, wherein encoding the current frame includes encoding the first sub-picture using the lossless encoding protocol.

An encoder, the encoder comprising circuitry configured to:
- receive an input video;
- select a current frame;
- identify a first region of the current frame to be encoded using a first lossless encoding protocol;
- and
- encode the current frame, wherein encoding the current frame further comprises encoding the first region using the first lossless encoding protocol.

A method of combined lossless and lossy coding, the method comprising:
- receiving, by an encoder, an input video;
- selecting, by the encoder, a current frame;
- identifying, by the encoder, a first region of the current frame to be encoded using a first lossless encoding protocol;
- and
- encoding, by the encoder, the current frame, wherein encoding the current frame further comprises encoding the first region using the first lossless encoding protocol.
