Abstract
A method includes obtaining measurements associated with a plurality of controlled variables (CVs) and a plurality of manipulated variables (MVs). The method also includes detecting an irregular operating condition of a CV or an MV. The method also includes analyzing case specific operating conditions based on the irregular operating condition. The method further includes removing the irregular operating condition based on analyzing the case specific operating conditions.
Claims20
A method comprising:
- controlling a process using a Model Predictive Controller (MPC), wherein the MPC controller manipulates one or more manipulated variables (MVs) of the process to control one or more controlled variables (CVs) of the process;
- detecting one or more of a plurality of predetermined irregular operating conditions of one or more CVs and/or MVs of the process;
- in response to detecting one or more of the plurality of predetermined irregular operating conditions, providing one or more recommended operator actions to an operator to modify one or more parameters of the MPC Controller;
- receiving an input from the operator that causes implementation of one or more of the recommended operator actions;
- and
- controlling the process using the MPC controller after one or more of the recommended operator actions is implemented.
A controller for controlling a process, the controller comprising:
- an input port for receiving one or more controlled variables (CVs) of the process;
- an output port for providing one or more manipulated variables (MVs) to the process;
- a Model Predictive Controller (MPC) operatively coupled to the input port and the output port, the MPC controller:
- controls the process by manipulating one or more of the manipulated variables (MVs) of the process to control one or more of the controlled variables (CVs) of the process;
- detects one or more of a plurality of predetermined irregular operating conditions of one or more of the CVs and/or one or more of the MVs;
- in response to detecting one or more of the plurality of predetermined irregular operating conditions, provides one or more recommended operator actions to an operator to modify one or more parameters of the MPC Controller;
- receives an input from the operator that causes implementation of one or more of the recommended operator actions;
- and
- controls the process by manipulating one or more of the manipulated variables (MVs) of the process to control one or more of the controlled variables (CVs) of the process after one or more of the recommended operator actions is implemented.
A non-transient computer readable medium storing instructions thereon that, when executed, cause one or more processors to:
- control a process using a Model Predictive Controller (MPC), wherein the MPC controller controls one or more manipulated variables (MVs) of the process to control one or more controlled variables (CVs) of the process;
- detect one or more of a plurality of predetermined irregular operating conditions of the process;
- in response to detecting one or more of the plurality of predetermined irregular operating conditions of the process, provide one or more recommended operator actions to an operator to modify one or more parameters of the MPC Controller;
- receive an input from the operator that causes implementation of one or more of the recommended operator actions;
- and
- control the process using the MPC controller after one or more of the recommended operator actions is implemented.
