Abstract
The present disclosure relates to a ferrule-less fiber optic connector including a connector body having a front end. The ferrule-less fiber optic connector can include a plurality of optical fibers that extend through the connector body. The optical fibers can have having free end portions at the front end of the connector body that are not supported by a ferrule or by ferrules. In one example, the ferrule-less fiber optic connector can be a duplex fiber optic connector. Transceiver modules and components are also disclosed.

A duplex fiber optic connector comprising:
- a connector body including a front end;
- only two optical fibers having end faces accessible at the front end of the connector body, the optical fiber end faces having a center-to-center spacing less than 1.25 millimeters.

A fiber optic connector comprising:
- a connector body including a front end;
- at least one optical fibers having an end face accessible at the front end of the connector body;
- and
- a dust cap for protecting the end face of the optical fiber, the dust containing a non-gaseous fluid that contacts the optical fiber, and the dust cap defining a vent.
An optical transceiver module comprising:
- a housing having a first end and a second end;
- an optical interface at the first end and an electrical interface at the second end, the optical interface including a connector port and optical fiber alignment structure adjacent the connector port, the optical fiber alignment structure being adapted for aligning ferrule-less optical fibers;
- a receive component including an optical-to-electrical converter electrically connected to the electrical interface;
- a transmit component including an electrical-to-optical converter electrically connected to the electrical interface;
- a first optical fiber having a first end received within the optical fiber alignment structure and a second end optically connected to the receive component;
- and
- a second optical fiber having a first end received within the optical fiber alignment structure and a second end optically connected to the transmit component.
