A method of treating a fungal infection in a subject in need thereof comprising administering to the subject a vaccine comprising an inactivated F-box protein 1 deletion (fbp1Δ) mutant Cryptococcus neoformans cell, wherein the inactivated fbpΔ mutant cell is heat-killed, and wherein the (fbp1Δ) is a full deletion or a partial deletion.
