Abstract
Disclosed is a system for assisting in guiding and performing a procedure on a subject. The subject may be any appropriate subject such as inanimate object and/or an animate object. The guide and system may include various manipulable or movable members, such as robotic systems, and may be registered to selected coordinate systems.

A procedure navigation system, comprising:
- a controller operable to generate a signal;
- a localizer coil formed of a conductive material;
- a H-bridge switch system interconnecting the controller and the localizer coil;
- wherein the localizer coil is operable to transmit a tracking signal from the controller when connected via the H-bridge.

- a controller configured to generate a spread spectrum impulse sign
- a coil formed of a conductive material;
- and
- a switch interconnecting the controller and the coil;
- wherein the coil is operable to transmit a tracking signal in the generated spread spectrum signal from the controller when connected via the switch.

A procedure navigation system, comprising:
- a controller configured to:
- (a) generate a spread spectrum impulse sign,
- (b) generate a pseudo-noise signal, and
- (c) generate a tracking signal including the pseudo-noise in the spread spectrum signal and;
- a transmitting coil formed of a conductive material;
- and
- a switch interconnecting the controller and the coil;
- wherein the coil is operable to transmit the tracking signal from the controller when connected via the switch.
