Dual-threaded tensioning mechanism for bipolar pencil

A tensioning assembly for an electrode assembly of an electrosurgical pencil, comprising:

• a set screw including a series of threads configured to threadably engage a corresponding series of grooves defined in a proximal end of an active pin of an electrode assembly such that, upon rotation of the set screw, the set screw advances to secure an active cutting wire of the electrode assembly within the active pin;
• and
• a nut fixed within the electrode assembly, the nut including a series of grooves defined therein configured to threadably engage a corresponding series of threads disposed about a distal end of the active pin such that, upon rotation of the active pin, the active pin translates relative to the nut to tension the active wire for cutting.

A method of tensioning an active wire of an electrode assembly of an electrosurgical pencil, comprising:

• advancing a set screw including a series of threads configured to threadably engage a corresponding series of grooves defined in a proximal end of an active pin of an electrode assembly such that, upon advancement of the set screw, the set screw secures an active cutting wire of the electrode assembly within the active pin;
• and
• rotating the active pin relative to a nut fixed within the electrode assembly to retract the active pin proximally relative to the nut to tension the active wire for cutting.
