Abstract
A hybrid mandrel for forming a composite part may comprise a core and a sleeve located around the core. The core may include a rigid material. The sleeve may comprise an elastomeric material. The part may be formed by locating the hybrid mandrel in an injection mold, depositing a molten resin around the hybrid mandrel, curing the molten resin; and removing the hybrid mandrel.
Claims20
A hybrid mandrel for forming a composite part, comprising:
- a core including a rigid material;
- and
- a sleeve located around the core, the sleeve comprising an elastomeric material, wherein an external surface of the sleeve is configured to form an interior surface of the composite part.
A system for forming a cascade array for a thrust reverser, the system comprising:
- an injection mold;
- and
- a hybrid mandrel located within a mold cavity of the injection mold, the hybrid mandrel comprising:
- a core;
- and
- a sleeve located around the core, the sleeve comprising an elastomeric material.
A method of forming a composite part, comprising:
- depositing a material around a hybrid mandrel, the hybrid mandrel including a core and sleeve located around the core;
- removing the core of the hybrid mandrel;
- and
- removing the sleeve from the composite part after removing the core.
