Abstract
The method disclosed herein provides for performing user authentication and maintaining user authentication and access to a first device based on the user maintaining control of the first device. The continued control may be based on determining the user's continued possession of the first device, or determining an acceptable proximity of the user to the first device. The proximity of the user may be determined using a second device associated with the user, or sensors associated with the first device.
Claims21
A method comprising:
- authenticating, by a first computing device, a user;
- determining, by a security component executing on the first computing device, that the user is authenticated and in control of the first computing device;
- after determining that the user is authenticated and in control of the first computing device, determining, by the security component, whether the user has maintained continuous control of the first computing device;
- and
- when the determination is that the user has maintained continuous control, issuing instructions, by the security component, that cause the first computing device to be maintained in an unlocked state, or
- when the determination is that the user has not maintained continuous control, allowing, by the security component, the first computing device to enter a locked state.
A non-transitory, computer-readable storage medium having stored thereon a plurality of instructions, which, when executed by a processor of a first computing device, cause the first computing device to:
- determine that a user is authenticated and in control of the first computing device;
- after determining that the user is authenticated and in control of the first computing device, determine whether the user has maintained continuous control of the first computing device;
- and
- when the determination is that the user has maintained continuous control, issue that cause the first computing device to be maintained in an unlocked state, or
- when the determination is that the user has not maintained continuous control, allow the first computing device to enter a locked state.
A system, comprising a first computing device including at least one processor and memory and instructions that when executed by the at least one processor cause the first computing device to:
- authenticate a user;
- determine that the user is authenticated and in control of the first computing device;
- after determining that the user is authenticated and in control of the first computing device, determine whether the user has maintained continuous control of the first computing device;
- and
- when the determination is that the user has maintained continuous control, issue that cause the first computing device to be maintained in an unlocked state, or
- when the determination is that the user has not maintained continuous control, allow the first computing device to enter a locked state.
