Abstract
A method for forming a self-healing ceramic matrix composite (CMC) component includes depositing a first self-healing particulate material in a first region of a CMC preform of the CMC component and depositing a second self-healing particulate material having a different chemical composition than the first self-healing particulate material in a second region of the CMC preform distinct from the first region.
Claims20
A ceramic matrix composite (CMC) component comprising:
- a plurality of fibers;
- and
- a ceramic matrix, wherein the plurality of fibers are embedded in the ceramic matrix and wherein the ceramic matrix comprises:
- a first region comprising deposits of a first self-healing material capable of sealing cracks in the matrix;
- and
- a second region distinct from the first region and comprising deposits of a second self-healing material capable of regenerating an environmental barrier coating;
- wherein the deposits of the first and second self-healing materials are dispersed throughout the matrix in each of the first and second regions.
An undensified fiber preform for a CMC component, the undensified fiber preform comprising:
- a plurality of fibers;
- deposits of a first self-healing material in a first region of the undensified fiber preform;
- and
- deposits of a second self-healing material in a second region of the undensified fiber preform;
- wherein the first and second self-healing materials are different.
