Abstract
The present invention provides methods and compositions for converting non-Tregs into Tregs. The converted Tregs are referred to as inducible Tregs (iTregs). The iTregs are useful for preventing, suppressing, blocking or inhibiting an immune response. For example the iTregs are useful for preventing rejection of a transplanted tissue in a human or other animal host, or protecting against graft vs host disease. The iTregs can also be used to treat autoimmune diseases.
Claims15
A method for inhibiting cytotoxic T-lymphocyte (CTL) activity, the method comprising contacting a cytotoxic T-lymphocyte with an effective amount of iTregs.
A method for generating an immunosuppressive effect in a mammal having an alloresponse or autoimmune response, the method comprising administering to said mammal an effective amount of iTregs.
A method for preventing an alloresponse or an autoimmune response in a mammal, said method comprising administering to said mammal, prior to onset of an alloresponse or autoimmune response, an effective amount of iTreg to prevent said response.
A method of treating a transplant recipient to reduce in said recipient an immune response against the transplant, the method comprising administering to a transplant recipient, an effective amount of iTregs to reduce an immune response against the antigen.
