Abstract
Oligosaccharides are for use in the treatment of neurodegenerative diseases of the central nervous system, in particular Parkinson's disease, and to pharmaceutical compositions including one or more of the oligosaccharides.

A method for the treatment of neurodegenerative diseases of the central nervous system comprising:
- administering to a patient in need thereof of an oligosaccharide of formula (1):
- R1-β-Gal-(1-3)-β-GalNAc-(1-4)-[α-Neu5Ac-(2-3)]-R2-R3 (1)
- where R1 is absent or selected from α-Fuc(1-2), α-Neu5Ac-(2-3);
- R2 is selected from -(1-4)-β-Gal, -(1-4)-Gal;
- R3 is absent or selected from (1-4)-Glc, -(1-4)-sorbitol;
- for use in the treatment.

A pharmaceutical composition comprising one or more of the oligosaccharides of formula (1):
- R1-β-Gal-(1-3)-(3-GalNAc-(1-4)-[α-Neu5Ac-(2-3)]-R2-R3 (1)
- wherein R1 is absent or selected from α-Fuc(1-2), α-Neu5Ac-(2-3);
- R2 is selected from -(1-4)-β-Gal, -(1-4)-Gal;
- R3 is absent or selected from (1-4)-Glc, -(1-4)-sorbitol;
- and
- one or more pharmaceutically acceptable excipients.
