A method for controlling stress comprises (a) providing an individual with (i) stimulator devices, each device comprising a wireless receiver, a selectively controllable tactile stimulator, a stimulator device processor that processes digitally encoded instructions in received wireless signals and controls the operation of the tactile stimulator in response thereto and (ii) a programmable mobile device controller comprising a memory component comprising instructions for receiving input from the individual comprising the intensity and speed of stimulation through a graphical user interface, processor(s) for reading the memory and executing the instructions, and a wireless relay for transmitting instructions to the stimulator devices, (b) having the individual place the stimulator devices bilaterally on and in direct or indirect contact with the individual's body, (c) having the individual set the speed and intensity of the stimulation, and (d) causing the controller to store the individual's speed and intensity selections in the memory component.
A method for controlling stress in an individual through applying bilateral stimulation to the individual comprising (a) providing the individual with (i) two or more stimulator devices, each stimulator device comprising a wireless receiver that receives wireless digital communications, a selectively controllable tactile stimulator, and a stimulator device processor that processes digitally encoded instructions in received wireless signals and controls the operation of the tactile stimulator in response thereto and (ii) a separate programmable mobile device controller comprising a memory component comprising computer readable medium comprising instructions for receiving input from the individual regarding the stimulation intensity and speed of stimulation of the stimulators through a graphical user interface, one or more processors for reading the computer readable medium and executing the instructions, and a wireless relay component for transmitting the instructions to the stimulator devices through wireless signals, (b) having the individual place the stimulator devices bilaterally on and in direct or indirect contact with the individual's body, (c) having the individual set the speed and intensity of the stimulation through the graphical user interface, and (d) causing the controller to (i) relay instructions to the stimulator devices to cause the stimulator devices to apply bilateral tactile stimulation to the individual and (ii) store the individual's speed and intensity selections in the memory component.
