Abstract
Methods and systems are provided for a coupling device. In one example, the coupling device may be formed of a composite material and positioned between an exhaust system and a vehicle chassis. The composite material may include aluminum particles dispersed in an elastomer matrix to reduce an overall thermal absorptivity of the composite material.
Claims20
A coupling device for a vehicle, comprising:
- a structure formed of a composite material, positioned between a vehicle chassis and an exhaust system and configured to absorb oscillations generated at the exhaust system, and wherein the composite material is a mixture of aluminum particles dispersed in an elastomer matrix.
An exhaust isolator, comprising:
- a composite material formed of aluminum particles dispersed in an elastomer, the elastomer having a higher thermal absorptivity than the aluminum particles, wherein the exhaust isolator is positioned between a vehicle chassis and an exhaust system and the composite material is configured to block transmission of vibrations from an exhaust system to a vehicle chassis while resisting heating via radiation from the exhaust system.
A vehicle, comprising:
- a chassis;
- an exhaust system arranged below the chassis;
- and
- at least one coupling device coupling the exhaust system to the chassis and formed of an aluminum particle/rubber composite.
