Secondary cell group selection based on primary frequency band measurements

A method of wireless communication by a base station, comprising:

• configuring a user equipment (UE) to estimate channel characteristics of a secondary band based on measurements of a primary band;
• configuring reporting of the estimated channel characteristics of the secondary band;
• and
• selecting a secondary cell group (SCG) based on the estimated channel characteristics of the secondary band rather than measurements of the secondary band.

A user equipment (UE) for wireless communication comprising:

• a memory, and
• at least one processor operatively coupled to the memory, the memory and the at least one processor configured:
• to receive a message requesting estimated channel characteristics of a secondary band based on measuring of characteristics of a channel in a primary band;
• to measure characteristics of the channel in the primary band;
• to estimate channel characteristics of the secondary band based on measured characteristics of the channel in the primary band, the estimating occurring without measuring signals in the secondary band;
• and
• to report the estimated channel characteristics of the secondary band.

A base station for wireless communication comprising:

• a memory, and at least one processor operatively coupled to the memory, the memory and the at least one processor configured:
• to configure a user equipment (UE) to estimate channel characteristics of a secondary band based on measurements of a primary band;
• to configure reporting of the estimated channel characteristics of the secondary band;
• and
• to select a secondary cell group (SCG) based on the estimated channel characteristics of the secondary band rather than measurements of the secondary band.
