System and method, which using blockchain and mobile devices, provides the validated and authenticated identity of an individual to a valid and authenticated requestor

A method for permitting a first individual to create an identity document stored on a first electronic device based upon a physical photo-bearing identity document, having that identity document certified as authentic and properly possessed by the first individual, and recording permanent, immutable evidence of said certification for future use in facilitating proof of identity;

• the method consisting of:
• a) Electronically capturing an image of the physical photo-bearing identity document possessed by the first individual using a first electronic device associated with the first individual;
• and
• b) Transmitting the captured image as first data to a computer system associated with the original issuer of the physical identity document
• c) The computer server applying digital algorithms to determine that the personal information and photography contained on the presented identity document are identical to those recorded by the issuer at the time the physical document was issued;
• and upon determining that the images match;
• d) Delivery of second data consisting of a cryptographic key by the first individual to the computer system associated with the original issuer that will be used to encrypt the record of proof of identity;
• and
• e) Application of a cryptographic algorithm on the system associated with the original issuer to combine the image transmitted as first data;
• and
• f) Transmitting the encrypted image resulting from the application of the cryptographic algorithm as third data to one or more public, private, or consortium entities that maintain an accessible database of such stored proofs;
• and
• g) Storage of a record of the identity authentication process, including the encrypted data delivered as third data, upon an accessible, immutable data store;
• and
• h) Storage of the image originally transmitted as first data and the cryptographic key transmitted as second data in a secure manner on the first electronic device associated with the first individual.

A method for permitting a first individual to create an identity document stored on a first electronic'device based upon a physical photo-bearing identity document, having that identity document certified as authentic and properly possessed by the first individual, and recording permanent, immutable evidence of said certification for future use in facilitating proof of identity;

• the method consisting of:
• a) Electronically capturing an image of the physical photo-bearing identity document possessed by the first individual using a first electronic device associated with the first individual;
• and
• b) Transmitting the captured image as first data to a second electronic device associated an authorized public or private official
• c) The authorized public or private official comparing the transmitted image with either an in-person or live-transmitted image of the first individual;
• and upon determining that the images match;
• d) Delivery of second data consisting of a cryptographic key by the first individual to the public or private official that will be used to encrypt the record of proof of identity;
• and
• e) Application of a cryptographic algorithm on a system associated with the public or private official to combine the image transmitted as first data;
• and
• f) Transmitting the encrypted image as third data to one or more public, private, or consortium entities that maintain an accessible database of such stored proofs;
• and
• g) Storage of a record of the identity authentication process, including the encrypted data delivered as third data, upon an accessible, immutable data store;
• and
• h) Storage of the image originally transmitted as first data and the cryptographic key transmitted as second data in a secure manner on the first electronic device associated with the first individual.

A method of delivering personal information contained on a photo-bearing identity document by a first individual to a second individual or entity while also providing evidence that the identity document is a valid, authentic document that was actually issued to the presenter by permitting the second individual or entity to access the proof of identity previously generated by the first individual and recorded in an accessible immutable ledger;

• this method consisting of:
• a) Providing to a first electronic device first credential information relating to the individual associated with the first electronic device;
• the first credential information authorizing subsequent transmission of identity information from the first electronic device;
• and
• b) Transmission of a digital image as first data of a photo-bearing identity document stored on a first electronic device belonging to a first individual to a second electronic device controlled by a second individual or entity to whom the document is being offered as proof of identity;
• and;
• c) Second individual or entity, if practical, inspecting the transmitted photo-bearing identity document image and comparing it with an in-person or live-transmitted image of the presenter to determine that the presenter is the person portrayed on the document, and
• d) Transmission of second data by the first individual to a first server, said data consisting of the cryptographic key previously used in combination with the image of the previously authenticated photo-bearing identity document to produce a record in an immutable ledger;
• and
• e) Transmission of third data by the second individual or entity to a first server;
• said data consisting of the image of the photo-bearing identity document obtained from first individual;
• and
• f) Applying cryptographic algorithms on the first server to combine the captured image and cryptographic key to produce a result that can be compared against entries in a digital immutable ledger, and
• g) Upon failing to find a matching record, returning fourth data to the second individual or entity;
• said data consisting of a notice of failure to authenticate the identity to terminate the process;
• or
• h) Upon finding a matching record;
• generating a graphic pattern using a fractal algorithm, and sending fifth data to both first electronic device and second electronic device;
• said data consisting of a notice of success as well as the graphic fractal pattern;
• and
• i) Second individual or entity, if practical, comparing the fractal image received on the second electronic device with the image sent to the first individual on the first electronic device in order to complete the confirmation that of the authenticity of the photo-bearing identity document;
• and
• j) Subsequent to completing the confirmation, and if so required by the second individual or entity, presenting in visual form to the second individual ail or part of the identification information contained on the photo-bearing identity document;
• said information being both sufficient to satisfy the requirements of the second individual and available by permission of the first individual.

The method according to Claim Error! Reference source not found. wherein the limited subset of information presented to the second individual consists of at least one of:

• a) The complete image of one or both sides of the original photo-bearing identity document;
• or
• b) The first individual's name as it appears on the identity document;
• or
• c) The first individual's address as it appears on the identity document;
• or
• d) The first individual's date of birth as it appears on the identity document;
• or
• e) The first individual's age as calculated by comparing the date of birth as it appears on the identity document with the current date without making the date of birth itself visible to the second individual;
• or
• f) The fact that the first individual's age is or is not greater than or equal to a predetermined value;
• said age being calculated by comparing the date of birth as it appears on the identity document with the current date without making the actual age or date of birth itself visible to the second individual;
• or
• g) The fact that the first individual's address denotes residence in a particular jurisdiction (including, but not limited to a city, state, province, postal area, or other municipal jurisdiction) without making the entire address visible to the second individual;
• or
• h) Any or all other personal information contained on the identity document.
