Image processing for distinguishing individuals in groups

A method comprising:

• identifying individual attributes for individuals of a group from an image;
• identifying limb attributes for limbs of each individual of the group from the image using the individual attributes;
• labeling the image with body parts and the limbs associated with each individual of the group;
• assigning or associating items detected within the image to or with particular individuals of the group based on the labeling and based a proximity of each item to a particular limp of a corresponding particular individual;
• and
• tracking and monitoring the individuals and updating assignments of the items to the particular individuals in subsequent images taken of the group.

A method comprising:

• receiving images streamed from cameras dispersed inside and outside of an enterprise;
• identifying a group of individuals within the images;
• assigning person identifiers for each of the individuals of the group;
• deriving person attributes for each individual from the images;
• identifying limb attributes for limbs of each individual from the images;
• identifying body parts of each individual from the images using the corresponding person attributes and limb attributes;
• identifying items present within the images based on item attributes associated with the items;
• creating assignments for each item to one or more particular individuals of the group based on a proximity of each item within the images to a corresponding particular individual or a corresponding limb using the person identifiers, the person attributes, the body parts, and the limb attributes;
• maintaining one or more carts for one or more of the individuals based on the person identifiers and the assignments;
• and
• adding item identifiers for the items to the corresponding carts based on the assignments.

A system comprising:

• cameras connected to a network that capture images and stream the images to a server;
• the server comprising a processor and a non-transitory computer-readable storage medium;
• the non-transitory computer-readable storage medium comprising executable instructions;
• the executable instructions executed by the processor from the non-transitory computer-readable storage medium causing the processor to perform operations comprising:
• receiving the images from the cameras;
• identifying a group of individuals within the images;
• deriving person attributes and limb attributes from the images for each individual and for limbs of each individual;
• identifying items within a configured proximity of the limbs from the images based on the person attributes, the limb attributes, and item attributes for the items;
• maintaining a single cart for the group or a subset of carts for a subset of the individuals of the group;
• and
• adding and removing item identifiers for the items to and from the single cart or the subset of carts based on the identifying of the items within the configured proximity of the limbs.
